Forgiveness

Forgiveness Is Not Pretending It Did Not Happen

By Marie Denton · April 18, 2026

People often resist forgiveness because they believe it requires them to say the harm did not matter. It does not. Forgiveness releases the debt; it does not rewrite the history.

Forgiveness is a decision before it is a feeling

Feelings usually follow, slowly and unevenly. Choosing to release someone is an act of obedience and freedom long before the ache disappears.

Trust is rebuilt, not granted

Forgiving someone does not obligate you to hand them unrestricted access. Trust is rebuilt through changed behavior over time. Healthy boundaries and genuine forgiveness can live side by side.
